John Byron Anderson was born on April 20, 1934, in Montevideo, Minnesota to Bennie A. and Myrtle H. Anderson and grew up on a farm outside of Montevideo. John had one sister Beverly (Anderson) Larsen and three brothers Bruce, Harold “Pete” and James Anderson in addition to other extended family members.

John graduated from Montevideo Central High School in 1952. He married Gwynne R. Berg on June 16, 1962. They settled in Montevideo and had two girls, Kari and Kristen. While in Montevideo, John worked for Rock Island Lumber and Northern States Power, eventually landing with State Farm Insurance. John and Gwynne moved with their two daughters from Montevideo to New London in 1969. John opened an office on Main Street where he sold State Farm Insurance for 30 years serving customers all around the west central lakes region. John especially loved volunteering in his community and served on several church boards including building committees, the NL-S school board, and the county and local economic development boards.

Outside of work and community involvement, John enjoyed fishing, riding snowmobiles and motorcycles, four-wheeling and fighting fires as a volunteer New London fireman. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church for over 54 years. John will be remembered for his warm smile, his sweet roll deliveries and willingness to lend a hand to all.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bennie and Myrtle Anderson; brothers, Bruce and Harold (Pete) and sister, Beverly Larsen. He is survived by his wife, Gwynne Anderson; his daughters, Kari Halbur (James Halbur); Kris Anderson (Michael Lieberman); grandchildren, Simon and Sydney Halbur and Simone and Harvey Lieberman; his brother, Jim Anderson, many nieces and nephews and countless friends and neighbors.
